San Carlos Mexico:
Attractions

The small mountain ranges and cactus dotted desert around San Carlos provide a unqiue backdrop for the shrub covered sand dunes that make up the shoreline in and around San Carlos. The many deserted beaches make for interesting explorations of the area around San Carlos. Many provide almost exculsive use by the mere lack of tourists leaving visitors the chance to enjoy the quiet, soft sand beaches as well as the tranquil blue waters of the Sea of Cortez. Catch 22 Beach, just south of town, offers incredible scenery as well as "ruins" from the movie of the same name. Another good beach south of town, Algadones Beach, is a nice stretch of white sand and calm waters.

San Carlos Mexico: Attractions: On Land

Tetakawi Hill, the landmark that distinguishes San Carlos from the surrounding area, stands 600 feet above the Sea of Cortez. Climb to the top for a breathtaking vista of San Carlos, the marinas, the Sea of Cortez and the plains that stretch endlessly into the Sonoran desert beyond.

Located just over 10 miles north of San Carlos, Canon de Las Barajitas is a nature lover's paradise. The area encompasses 2,000 acres of wild desert and canyon terrain with over 2,000 yards of shore line on the Sea of Cortez forming three distinct ecosystems. This land sacred to local Indian tribes is a huge draw for tourists due to its unique flora and fauna and wide range of activities both on land and in the water.

The Perlas de Mar de Cortez, the first commercial cultured saltwater pearl farm on the American continent, offers visitors tours of the pearl farm as well as the opportunity to purchase some unique cultured pearl jewelry.

San Carlos Mexico: Attractions: In the Water

Located just off the shores Canon de Los Barajitas, San Pedro Nolasco Island is a huge rock island that is home to a large sea lion and seal population. Nearby waters provide an excellent opportunity for snorkeling and scuba diving with these amazing creatures.
